Stephen Michael Hanna

Stephen Michael Hanna, native of East Texas, enjoys a professional career singing music of many varied types and has integrated himself into the music scene in Cincinnati over the past few years, performing regularly with Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Chamber Opera, Queen City Opera, Roundabout Opera for Kids, Vocal Arts Ensemble (under GRAMMY Award Winner Craig Hella Johnson), Cincinnati Fusion Ensemble (under composer Howard Helvey), St. Rose of Lima Octet, Coro Volante, Schola Cincinnati, and then on occasion in numerous other venues for oratorio, recital, and masterclass. Stephen holds degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University, B.M. as well as the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, M.M. 

Noted opera roles include Schaunard in La bohème, Frank in Die Fledermaus, Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow, Bobby in Mahagonny Songspiel, and Bartolo in The Barber of Seville.  Equally at home on the concert stage, Stephen has performed such works as Vaughan Williams’s Five Mystical Songs, Haydn’s The Creation, Händel’s Messiah, and the premier of Kile Smith’s Canticle.

Also an avid supporter of new music, Stephen can regularly be seen and heard performing and recording new choral and chamber works, song cycles, and operas by living composers. When not in performance, Stephen spends his time as a professional photographer, barista, and backpacker.
